Baby – Sitting Table

We are providing a range of reading books at the Upper Oldfield Park library suitable for pupils to borrow to read to younger siblings or to children they are baby sitting. Please start to use these books – reading to others is fun and gives you a chance to re-read the books you once loved but don’t want to be seen reading now at your age!
Any donations of out – grown books in good condition suitable for age range 0 -5 years would be welcomed for this resource. Please bring donations to either library.

Reading Group

Meets regularly in the Upper Oldfield Park library to read and discuss interesting fiction. Please contact the librarian if you are interested in joining this informal group.

Carnegie Award for Children’s Literature

This is an annual award for the best of children’s literature published during the previous year. Previous winners have included Meg Rosoff ‘Just in Case’; Terry Pratchett ‘The Amazing Maurice’; Tim Bowler ‘River Boy’; Philip Pullman ‘Northern Lights’
A small group of Year 9 pupils is shadowing the judging process for the 2008 award during Feb –June reading the books on the long and short lists, deciding on their favourites and discovering whether their opinions reflect those of the judges.
Anyone who would also like to read the nominated books can find them listed on www.carnegiegreenaway.org.uk

This also provides an excellent suggestion list for those looking for a good book to read or purchase as a present.

National Year of Reading 2008

This Government sponsored campaign aims to create a focus of opportunities and activities so that children, families and adult learners understand the benefits of reading for both pleasure and purpose.
During the year we intend to offer a range of activities supporting this initiative to involve the whole Hayesfield Community in books and reading.
